Silva Strikes in Final Minutes to Seal Victory
Manchester City booked their place in the FA Cup final with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the semifinals at Wembley Stadium on Saturday. The only goal of the game came in the 83rd minute, when Bernardo Silva fired home a low shot from just inside the area.
The win was a redemption of sorts for City, who lost to Chelsea in the semifinals of last year's competition. It was also a significant result for manager Pep Guardiola, who is still searching for his first FA Cup title.
Chelsea had the better of the chances in the first half, but they were unable to find a way past City goalkeeper Ederson. Christian Pulisic came closest for the Blues, but his shot from close range was well saved.
City grew into the game in the second half and created a number of good opportunities. Gabriel Jesus had a goal ruled out for offside, while Raheem Sterling fired wide from a promising position.
Silva's goal came out of nowhere. The Portuguese midfielder received the ball on the left-hand side of the area and drove towards goal. He then cut inside and fired a low shot into the bottom corner.
Chelsea pushed for an equalizer in the closing stages, but City held on to secure their place in the final. They will now face either Arsenal or Liverpool in the showpiece event on May 18.
